During the event, Buzzi’s executive team outlined the company’s decarbonisation strategy, emphasising this project as a crucial milestone towards the broad implementation of Nuada’s carbon capture technology across the Group’s cement plants to realise their net zero targets.
The event began with opening remarks from Paolo Zelano, CEO of Buzzi Unicem and Paolo Paoletti, Director of the Monselice Cement Plant. Luigi Buzzi, Group Technical Director, presented the principles of Buzzi’s Roadmap ‘Our Journey to Net Zero’, a long-term plan for decarbonization, in line with the objectives set by the European Green Deal.
Next, Francesco Magli, Buzzi’s R&D Projects Specialist, provided the background of this ground-breaking pilot and the justification for selecting to trial Nuada’s innovative carbon capture solution.
The proceedings were closed by Conor Hamill, CEO of Nuada, who emphasised that this pilot project represents a significant innovation milestone in carbon capture and highlights the technology’s potential for cement production. He shared that the ongoing trials have demonstrated excellent capture rates from the cement flue gas. The high-performance data and insights gained so far will play a key role in the continued scaling up of this crucial technology that addresses key challenges of traditional carbon capture methods: cost, energy consumption, and process integration.
After the presentations, the attendees had the opportunity to tour the plant and witness the game-changing technology in action.
